FAQs

Can I use a regular vacuum to clean up fireplace or grill ash?

No. Standard vacuums aren't built to handle heat, and vacuuming even warm ash can melt internal components or ignite inside the bag or filter. An ash vacuum like the Vacmaster EATC608S uses a metal collection tank and a heat resistant filter specifically designed to handle ash safely.

How long should ashes cool before vacuuming, even with an ash vacuum?

An ash vacuum isn't a substitute for letting a fire burn out completely. As a general safety practice, wait until ashes are fully cool to the touch before vacuuming.

Disclaimer: The temperature of the vacuuming material must be below 100°F (40°C). If it exceeds 100°F (40°C), there is a risk of fire. See manual for more detailed information.

What's the difference between an ash vacuum and a regular wet/dry vac?

Ash vacuums use a metal tank instead of plastic, since plastic can warp or melt from residual heat, along with a heat resistant filter built for fine, potentially smoldering particles. A standard wet/dry vac isn't rated for this.

Can the Vacmaster Ash Vacuum be used for anything besides fireplace ash?

Yes. It also works well for cold coals from grills, wood stove and pellet stove ash, and general dry debris cleanup around a hearth or patio.

Can I use my shop vacuum 1-7/8" accessories with this vac?

The Vacmaster ash vac is equipped with a 1-7/8" aluminum hose and metal accessories. Standard shop vacuum accessories are generally made with polypropylene, which would not be suitable for ash cleanup. We recommend using the metal accessories included with this vac.

Does the tank get hot when cleaning ash?

The tank may be warm to touch depending on the temperature of the ash being cleaned. It is highly recommended to let the ash cool down before cleaning. The temperature of the vacuuming material must be below 100°F (40°C). The vacuum is equipped with a polypropylene carry handle for safe transport and the tank include a metal handle for safe emptying.
